On September 1st, in the free state of Texas, the pro-life movement achieved a huge milestone. Senate Bill 8–known as the “Heartbeat Bill”–went into law 12am Wednesday morning, preventing abortions the moment a baby’s heartbeat is detected. This is a historic and unprecedented breakthrough in pro-life legislation since Roe v Wade was passed. According to the AP, at least 12 other states have passed similar measures, but until Texas, each effort was shut down.
Abortion advocates are mad. Scratch that, they are furious. Actually that is a much too sedated term, let me try again: Leftists are as animated as a cat that has had its whiskers pulled, been dunked in a lake, then set before the jowls of a pack of eager Rottweilers. That sort of animated. Why? Because, according to the University of Texas at Austin, this heartbeat law will prevent approximately 80% of abortion industry’s business. That is 80% of their chances to procure revenue via abortion and destroy pre-born God images. And that, according to pro-life activists Lila Rose and Abby Johnson, is 150 little lives saved every day this law is in effect.
The way SB 8 is set up places its enforcement fully upon citizens instead of state officials. This means any person–be it an abortion doctor, boyfriend, clinic receptionist–who aids a woman looking to terminate her pregnancy after a heartbeat is found can be sued by any citizen, be they from Texas or Alabama or any other land that is represented by a star on Old Glory. Before liberals can grind their teeth into non-existence over the “any person involved can be sued” clause, the law does prohibit the prosecution of the mother. She cannot be sued. Nonetheless, it hasn’t stopped the other side from losing their wigs over this clever twist to move the issue into civic court.
Pro-life advocates across the nation are celebrating this massive victory, but we aren’t out of the woods yet. Yes, it is true that SCOTUS has declined to pick up the case–which should cause us to throw our hats in the air and send a thank you note to President Trump for appointing pro-life Justices–but the Left won’t let life win so easily. In an article put out by Planned Parenthood, the author assures readers that the Center for Reproductive Rights, Planned Parenthood Federation of America, the ACLU, and other cruelly, ironically named organizations were on the case to prevent the law from going into effect. If that were true, I think it is safe to assume they are working feverishly to recover the freedom to murder children for profit.
On top of that, our legislators in D.C. are already laying out bills to be voted on as soon as they’re back in session. Congresswoman Judy Chu (D-CA) introduced the Women’s Health Protection Act (WHPA) back in June. If passed, WHPA–another cruelly ironic title–would codify Roe v Wade, making it “a statutory right to provide abortion services”. Speaker Pelosi already chirped via the bird app that the House will vote on it, to “enshrine into law reproductive health care for all women across America.”
Now is the time for the pro-life movement to keep the pedal to the medal and appeal to our Maker. Join me in praying that the Heartbeat bill milestone is the marker that the end of Roe is near. Pray that the church in Texas will step up and give the true solution to women with unwanted pregnancies. Pray that the efforts of our lawmakers will come to nothing, that legislation like WHPA will be shut down. And pray for the little lives that will now see the light of day because of SB 8, that they would live to be a testimony to the beauty of choosing life.
